Dame Barbara Windsor is fighting plans to build Britain’s first proton beam therapy unit in a three-storey basement at a Harley Street clinic near her home. Residents in the area of Marylebone, which is famous for the street of private surgeries, say the £26 million laboratory is unsuitable for the locality and fear building noise, traffic and the potential dangers of “highly radioactive” technologies.
