BLT lines up for soft-tissue targeting

Guiding the delivery of radiation to soft tissues in small animals is a challenge in preclinical radiotherapy research. Micro-MRI, micro-SPECT and micro-CT systems can improve localization accuracy for soft-tissue targets, but their high cost, size and shielding requirements limit their use. Molecular optical imaging, in particular bioluminescence tomography (BLT), provides a potential alternative that is non-ionizing, less costly and more compact.
