Can breath-hold minimise motion during intensity-modulated proton therapy?

Minimising motion while delivering radiation is of critical importance in order to hit the tumour target and avoid irradiating surrounding healthy tissue, especially when using advanced radiotherapy systems. The breath-hold approach, when a patient holds their breath for at least 20 seconds, has been proven to be dosimetrically robust and feasible for patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer.
