Father and son, 3, diagnosed with same rare cancer – but NHS can only offer treatment to one

A father and son diagnosed with the same cancer have been told the NHS can only offer life-saving treatment to the youngster, in a heartbreaking blow for the family. The devastated family of Nathan Lewis and his three-year-old son Thiago, of Deighton, were given the news after they were told they had the same rare condition that causes tumours to grow in the nervous system. But while Thiago will be offered treatment, the NHS has refused to fund proton beam therapy for his 30-year-old dad as recent scans have shown he now has secondary cancer.
