FLARE radiotherapy offers precision treatment

A novel radiotherapy technique designed to escalate dose to tumours of patients with locally advanced and unresectable non-small cell lung cancer, while reducing dose to perfused lung, is being tested in a clinical trial in Seattle. Known as functional lung avoidance and response-adaptive escalation radiation therapy (FLARE-RT), this precision strategy generates clinically deliverable treatment plans using a dual dose-painting-by-numbers approach.
