Girl, 8, diagnosed with rare cancer after her mum spotted a lump which looked like a bite

An eight-year-old girl was diagnosed with a tumour wrapped around her cheekbone after her mother spotted a lump which looked exactly like an insect bite. Tracey Payton from Stockport, Greater Manchester saw the lump on her daughter Emma’s face in Egypt during their family holiday and visited the GP as soon as they got home. A doctor initially thought Emma may have a blocked saliva gland, but an MRI scan revealed she had soft tissue cancer. Emma, now 10, needed to have a facial surgery and chemotherapy, followed by a proton beam therapy in Oklahoma, which was funded by NHS and a charity.
