Many US patients do not receive standard radiotherapy after mastectomy

Thirty-five percent of breast cancer patients who undergo a mastectomy are not receiving the recommended postoperative radiation therapy, according to a study presented at the Southern Surgical Association 126th Annual Meeting. The new study found that, of almost 57,000 suitable breast cancer cases in the United States from 1998 to 2011, only 65% of patients received follow-up radiotherapy.
