North-east volunteer recognised by Age Scotland for transporting the elderly

Gladys Cruickshank, the organiser of Alford Car Transport Services, won Volunteer of the Year at Age Scotland’s annual conference yesterday. The volunteer helped to set up the service, which travelled 32,000 miles across the North-east last year, with the aid of the Red Cross and Age Scotland. Following its creation in 1999, the service now boasts 30 volunteer drivers who help to carry older people to radiotherapy and other appointments in Aberdeen, Aboyne and Inverurie.
