Proton delivery is feasible in a magnetic field

Researchers in the Netherlands and US have successfully generated intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) plans in the presence of a diagnostic strength magnetic field. Achieved with inverse optimization and Monte Carlo calculations, dose coverage of the target was similar to that generated in the absence of a magnetic field, in findings that justify future research into a clinical MR-proton therapy hybrid system.
