Record numbers of NHS patients given excessively high levels of radiation, report reveals

Safety inspectors say 1,219 people were exposed to doses “much greater” than intended last year – up 167 per cent since 2009. It includes cases where staff performed X-ray and CT scans on the wrong patient or body part or at levels 20-times higher than necessary. The Care Quality Commission report says poor training, outdated machines, and the failure of staff to follow guidelines may be to blame.
