What is proton therapy and how could it save the lives of thousands of cancer patients?

The Metro reports that specialists at the Proton Therapy Center in Prague are advising those with breast cancer in the UK to take themselves out of NHS care and pay for private treatment. The report states that proton therapy isn’t generally available on the NHS for breast cancer patients – and no UK centre currently has the treatment on offer. However, proton beam centres are set to open in Manchester and London in 2018, with many opting to pay for treatment privately until they arrive.
