Radiotherapy Research Advanced Practitioner
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Kim studied therapeutic radiography at the University of Portsmouth, qualifying in 2002. She gained 10 years experience in treatment and pre-treatment radiotherapy and has worked as radiotherapy research advanced practitioner since. In this role she is involved in the set up and delivery of radiotherapy clinical trials. This is a varied role involving technique development and implementation, quality assurance, team leadership, education, trial recruitment, as well as direct patient care. Through qualitative interviews Kim and her colleagues are exploring trial recruitment from patients’ perspectives. This has helped the team develop more patient-centred recruitment practices. Kim attained a Master’s degree in clinical research at the University of Southampton in 2017 via the NIHR/HEE clinical academic program. Her dissertation topic was an analysis of the use of Twitter by radiotherapy patients and healthcare professionals. Her commitment to raising the profile of radiotherapy research is strong, and Kim is keen to pursue a clinical academic career. Her research interests include utilising digital communication, in particular social media, to improve patient experience and enhance learning and collaboration for healthcare professionals.
